MiPHY Toolkit

All Michigan 7th, 9th, and 11th grade students take the Michigan Profile for Health Youth (MiPHY) survey, which asks about health risk behaviors. The MiPHY provides student results on behaviors including substance use, violence, physical activity, nutrition, sexual behavior, and emotional health. The survey also measures risk and protective factors most predictive of alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use and violence. Results are available every other year at the county level.

BEDHD has developed an analysis toolkit to assist schools in the sharing and use of local MiPHY data. The first part of the kit is an Excel file that can be used to enter in local school district data—county data is already loaded. The Excel file is set up to automatically create a set of understandable charts to display the data. The second part of the kit includes four customizable Publisher templates on the main topics of the survey: Alcohol, Tobacco, and Marijuana Use; Sexual Behavior; Weight, Nutrition, and Physical Activity; and Safety, Violence, Bullying, and Mental Health. The Publisher documents are designed to accommodate the charts generated in the Excel file.

For assistance using these tools please contact Susan Peters, Health Analyst. We’d like to know how you’ve used these in your community—please e-mail Susan so BEDHD can continue to support community health assessment and improvement activities in the future. Thank you for attributing BEDHD as the source of these documents.
