BEDHD’s Environmental Health Division provides many services, including the following:
- Inspect restaurants and other food establishments
- Issue on-site drinking water well and on-site sewage system permits
- Inspect adult and child care facilities
- Inspect public swimming pools and campgrounds
- Inspect body art facilities
- Investigate foodborne illness ("food poisoning") complaints/reports
- Investigate rodent, garbage, restaurant, and other nuisance complaints
- Sample public beaches for bacteria
- Provide sample bottles for private well water testing
- Provide radon test kits for home testing
- Link residents to solid waste, recycling, and home toxics collection services
- Help ensure that residents have healthy homes (e.g., household hazardous waste, radon, vapor intrusion, mold, mercury, lead, bed bugs, methamphetamine, home flooding)
- Educate residents on bats, ticks, and mosquitoes and the diseases that they carry
- Educate residents on food safety at home
- Educate residents on flood safety as it relates to on-site sewage systems and water supply wells
- Educate the community on norovirus
- Provide information about the repealed Time of Sale or Transfer (TOST) program
