The
Environmental Health Division oversees licensing and inspections of all
restaurants, school kitchens, mobile food wagons and their commissaries,
catering kitchens, concession stands, and certain types of food vending machines
within Barry and Eaton Counties. With the exception of vending machines, inspections are
unannounced and generally occur two times a year unless additional inspections
are required due to non-compliance with the FDA Food Code or in response to
complaints.
A Food Service Establishment Inspection Report is
generated at the end of an inspection. This
report details for the person in charge any observed violations and the
correction schedule for them. Critical
violations are those violations that pose an increased risk for foodborne
illness. When possible, critical
violations are to be corrected at the time of the inspection; otherwise they
shall be corrected within 10 days of the inspection date.
Failure to do so may result in enforcement action initiated by the
Environmental Health Division. All
non-critical violations are subject to correction within a maximum of 90 days
from the date cited.
Food Service Establishment Inspection Reports are public records, which are available for review under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). FOIA requests regarding a particular food service establishment may be faxed to the Environmental Health Division at (269) 818-0237 in Barry County and to (517) 541-2686 in Eaton County.
