STD Counseling and Testing
Barry Eaton District Health Department offers confidential testing and treatment for chlamydia and gonorrhea. Prior to examination and testing, the client and STD counselor discuss the client’s risk factors for acquiring STDs, and what the client may do to reduce risk in the future. Information about sexually transmitted diseases is also provided during the counseling session. Appointments usually last approximately 30 minutes. Test results may be given by telephone or mail. Results are generally available two weeks after testing.
Persons who test positive for chlamydia or gonorrhea, are offered free treatment for these diseases. Their sexual partners may also receive counseling, examination and testing. Partners must visit the health department for treatment.
